The peak is known as “Sagarmatha” in the national language of Nepal & Chinese calls it “Chomolungma”. It is because, it lies in the Mahalangur Range (27°59’ North latitude, 86°55’ East longitudes), which is also the International border separating China (Tibet Autonomous Region) and Nepal. The International name was named after the Welsh Land Surveyor General 'Sir George Everest’. He is also the first person to locate the exact position of the peak.

Interesting Insight-
There was a dispute regarding Mt. Everest’s height between China and Nepal which lasted from 2005 to 2010. Nepal claimed its height as 8848 meters and China claimed only 8844 meters. Why the difference? Because China measured only up to the rock of Everest and Nepal included the pile of snow’s too. But later in 2010, final agreement was made between two countries and set it to 8848 meters as its official height. And Nepal still recognize it’s rock height as 8844 meters.
